Obv: A lake with boats, remains of a castle. JAMES below. Rev: CUMBERLAND LAKE TOKEN in three lines, trees and fence, 1796 below. Edge: Plain.

PCGS MS62BN. Bronzed with proof-like fields. Some flan pitting on reverse. Scarce. Farthing.

Charles James was the diesinker and probably the manufacturer of this specious token. The fortress probably represents Castle Crag, in the Cumberland lake district, which goes back to Roman times.
