Obv: Prince of Wales’ crest, 75 within oval below, all within beaded circle, R. ALLEN. IRONMONGER. POOLE. (around), 1797 below. Rev: POOLE HALFPENNY PAYABLE . IN DORSETSHIRE AND . DEVON 1797 in six lines. Edge: Engrailed.
Uncirculated and Choice. Much red remains. Typical die-crack on reverse. Ex. Deane. Rare.
A specious and rare token that was probably issued by Skidmore. The ‘75’ on the obverse is most likely in reference to a voting rights issue in Poole that occurred in 1775 and was still on the public’s mind at the time the token was struck.
