Named after St. Martin of Tours, the patron saint of travellers, the church shown on the token was built by Christopher Wren in 1677-84. Still standing today, it is famous for an Elizabethan plaque dated 1586 with 10 lines of text with an intriguing puzzle. The plaque records the charity set up by one Thomas Beri. If you take the first letters of each line of text and put them together backwards, it spells out ‘THOMAS BERI’. A fun thing to see when you visit.
