This is actually not one of the ancient gates of London, but the gate of the priory of the Knights of St. John, founded by Lord Jordan Briset in 1110. The antiquarian publication, the Gentleman’s Magazine, used the rooms above the gate as its printing office. The popular magazine would cease publication in 1869.
