Obv: Three-quarter bust to left, DOCTOR WILLIS around. Rev: BRITONS REJOICE YOUR KING'S RESTORED 1789.
AU. White metal, some original lustre and toned. Slight flattening on tip of nose. Great appeal.
Dr. Willis, at the age of 73, was called upon to help King George III while he was suffering from his illness. He contradicted the royal physicians, and the Queen, by insisting the King be freed from his strait-jacket, allowing visits from the Queen, along with more freedom of movement. He was proved correct when the King did indeed recover, thereafter to be besieged by patients seeking treatment. He died in 1811 at the age of 93.
