Obv: Janus head of the Devil & Pitt, EVEN FELLOWS below. Rev: A hangman and gallows, END OF P(eye)T. Edge: Plain.
Uncirculated and Proof-like. Toned a deep mahogany brown with tints of original mint red. Small flan crack and only the slightest bit of off-strike. A beautiful piece. Rare. Farthing. Ex. R.C. Bell.
The two-faced, Janus head on the obverse is a biting look at Prime Minister William Pitt and his evil alliance according to Spence. Add the not so thinly veiled call for executing him on the reverse, and you have an idea why Spence was often accused of Sedition and Treason.
