Obv: View of theatre, BIRMINGHAM THEATRE above, 1795 in exergue. Rev: Shield of arms, P. KEMPSON MAKER OF BUTTONS MEDALS & C BIRMINGHAM in three curved lines around. Edge: Plain.
Uncirculated and fading red. Dramatic die crack across the obverse above theatre.
After the original theatre burnt down in 1792, the Birmingham Theatre was built. The theatre had bas relief heads of Shakespeare and David Garrick as medallions built onto the newly constructed wings of the theatre. These can be seen on the token if you look closely.
