Obv: Bust of Lord Howe facing right, ADML. EARL HOWE around. Rev: View of ship sailing, GLORIOUS FIRST OF JUNE. 1794 around, FARTHING in exergue. Edge: Plain.
Uncirculated and choice. Die crack on obverse if front of bust. Weak on stern of ship. Rare.
Probably a specious token struck for collectors celebrating the popularity of Lord Earl Howe. He used an ingenious new system of signaling other ships at sea, which enabled him to sail his fleet past the French ships on the ‘Glorious first of June’.
