Although he died in 1759, George Frideric Handel had an enormous impact on the soul of England. Aside from being a brilliant composer, he was also known to be exceedingly generous, and this token was struck for general sale to raise money for his fund, the Royal Society of Musicians, which would care for musicians and their families who had fallen on hard times. “I Know That My Redeemer Liveth” is a soprano aria from the third part of his masterpiece “The Messiah”. At the time, and still today, this is usually performed by a boy soprano.
