Obv: View of cathedral with trees, HORNSEY HALFPENNY . around, 1797 below. Rev: A SPEEDY . AND . LASTING PEACE . in four lines between palm and laurel branch.
Uncirculated with reflective surfaces. Reverse has lovely blue toning in fields. Rare.
I’ve always found this to be a curious token, since it shows more shrubbery and trees than cathedral! Perhaps they were serious about their privacy. The church in Hornsey was built in the early 16th century. The sentiment on the reverse reflected the public mood after years of conflict.
