Obv: An elephant, PIDCOCKS EXHIBITION around. Rev: A rhino facing left, PIDCOCK above, EXETER CHANGE LONDON around. Edge: Plain.
Very Fine. A couple of rim knocks.
Although Pidcock had two Rhinos in his establishment at one time or another, this token probably shows the second rhino that he purchased from the Emperor of Germany for 1000 pounds. This one died only two months after its arrival at Pidcock’s. This one must have had a bit of a wild streak in it as it’s shown with a chain around its neck. The other rhino was much tamer and is shown without a chain.
