The old church, built in the 12th century, was destroyed by the Great Fire of 1666. Christopher Wren rebuilt it and the church opened in 1683. King Charles II had a special door built on the side of the building, through which he would enter to a room so that he could enjoy services privately. One of only four churches that were undamaged in the bombing of World War II. Skidmore produced two tokens showing this church, each a different design.
