Obv: Arms of Bristol in center circle, PROSPERITY TO THE CITY OF BRISTOL around. Rev: A public building, EXCHANGE above, 1796 BRISTOL. (in exergue). Edge: BRISTOL FAIR TOKEN . X . X . X . X . X . X . X.

Uncirculated and Choice Brown. Tiny reverse spot above date. Listed as Scarce, but actually Very Rare (RR).

A token that was probably struck for circulation and as a tradesmen’s ticket for J. Chester, a pharmacist and druggist who operated in Bristol. The Exchange on the reverse was done over in 1796, which probably explains the date. The edge is probably the most interesting, as it commemorates the Bristol Fair, a popular agricultural fair that brought large crowds every year.
