This ancient abbey was constructed in the early 13th century for Benedictine monks who built this Cistercian abbey over a 40 year period. It was known for its giant Yew trees, under which the monks were said to have lived while the abbey was being constructed. After the dissolution, it was turned over to private hands. A private token struck by Peter Kempson.
